Anne grew up in Poland before moving to Mississauga, Ontario, to marry the love of her life. They had their first daughter, Caroline Karubin, in 1987, and Catherine was born a year after her. They were a cheerful little family but only for a brief period.
The father became disinterested in his daughters and began to ignore Anne. It was no surprise when he later divorced her and refused to pay child support. Anne became a single mother, working two jobs to raise her daughters.
