15-year-old Rebecca Aylward was murdered in Aberkenfig, South Wales, in 2010 for one of the most casually cruel and trivial reasons ever: a bet. More than the murder, the reason for it disturbed the community beyond reason.
A Toxic Young Romance
Rebecca and Joshua started dating at the fledgling age of fourteen- both naive and foolish. They grew up in the Aberkenfig, South of Wales and their relationship reflected the immaturity of their age. They kept on breaking up and getting back together; it was often enough for Rebecca’s involved parents to be confused about the relationship status on the eve of her murder.
The relationship met an inevitable hiccup when rumors about Rebecca’s pregnancy started floating around in high school. She broke up with Joshua, and both started seeing other people.
