We’ve all heard of the Bermuda Triangle, and while it’s no longer as mysterious as it was in the 1960s, there are still plenty of stories about people going missing in other regions of the world. If you’ve ever wondered “what happened to these explorers?” or “why did they disappear?” then keep reading! We’ll look at some of history’s most notable disappearances and explain why they’re still unresolved mysteries today.

1. Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was an American author and aviation pioneer. She was one of aviation’s most well-known individuals and the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She vanished over the Pacific Ocean on July 2, 1937, while travelling from Hawaii to Howland Island in a Lockheed Electra 10E aero plane rented by her employer, George Palmer Putnam.

Some theories concerning Amelia Earhart’s fate include she crashed into the water during takeoff or landing and was devoured by sharks; or she was kidnapped by the Japanese and imprisoned as a prisoner of war. But the most interesting theory is that she crashed on…
