Mystery and Abandonment: The Story of Kuldhara, India’s Ghost Village
India’s ghost village, Kuldhara, is one among many other mysterious and eerie places. It is located in the Jaisalmer area of Rajasthan in northern India. The now deserted Village of Kuldhara was once very prosperous. The people flourished with each passing day, but the happiness didn’t last long. Let us look into the mysteries related to this abandoned Village in India.
Historical Records of Kuldhara
The Village was founded in the 13th century, as indicated by the archeologists who used three cemeteries with several tombstones to pinpoint the Village’s founding year.
Kandhan was the first resident of this area responsible for naming the Village and initiating settlement (as the historian Lakshmi Chand says in his book Tawarikh-i-Jaisalmer). While he settled there, he had to do something for his survival. To fetch water, he dug a pond for himself and other locals and named it “Udhansar.”
