48-year-old James Kraig Kahler murdered his wife, Karen, her grandmother and their daughters on the weekend after Thanksgiving 2009.

Obsessed With Punishing Ex-Wife

Karen was having Thanksgiving dinner with her two daughters, 18-year-old Emily and 16-year-old Lauren, her grandmother Dorothy and 11-year-old son Sean. It was at Dorothy’s house outside Burlingame, California.

This was not a familiar city for James. He worked in Missouri in the city utility department. However, he moved back a few weeks before the murder.

He intended to kill the family long before the weekend came about.

James and Karen were divorced. And he was obsessed with the fallout.

James believed his daughters took Karen’s side and wanted them out of the picture too. He was disturbed enough to lose the well-paying job too.

Karen asked for the divorce. She fell in love with Sunny Reese, a woman who resided in Weatherford, Texas, in 2008. Karen filed for divorce in January 2009.
