Harley lived in a peaceful neighborhood in Toronto. He had always been a man who enjoyed life and, even at 72, did not let his age slow him down. In July 2006, Harley visited an online gay chat room to date and met David Reid, the perfect match. Little could Harley know the secrets this man was hiding that would prove lethal.

Makes An Online Connection

Harley was born in Manchester, England, but moved to Canada in 1958. He settled in Cabbagetown, Toronto and worked as a director for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for the next 30 years. Harley had always been open about being homosexual, so he was well-known in Toronto’s gay community.

After retiring in his 70s, Harley spent his days gardening and his evenings drinking tea with the neighbors. But he desired more. So, he decided to look for a dating partner in a gay chat room online. Soon, Harley came across the 46-year-old David on 10 July. The two men chatted online, and Harley believed he genuinely connected with David. He then decided to take things further and arranged for a coffee date.
