On 2 February 1932, a dreadful crime occurred in Le Mans. Four women were involved in a horrific murder: the victims, a mother and daughter, and their maids, sisters Christine and Léa Papin, who perpetrated the crime. The tragedy sparked a slew of hypotheses about what drove the two young women to commit murder and become monsters overnight.

Christine and Léa Papin were two sisters born seven years apart into a dysfunctional family in Le Mans. They grew up witnessing violence and molestation by none other than their father. One time, he raped their elder sister, Emilia Papin, who then fled home and became a nun. Their mother, too, left them after the divorce. So, it was always Christine and Léa Papin vs the world.

When the marriage ended, Christine and Léa were sent to a psychiatric facility to recover from the trauma of divorce. Once released, they sought work as in-house maids, where they would always insist on working together. And that is how…
